Hello and welcome! My name is
Sandy (JiaQi) Mak. When I was a kid, I was enchanted by magic shows. One of my favorite TV shows
was Breaking the Magician's Code. Even though the premise of the show was to dispel the illusion, I never
once cease to wonder…
In my professional life, I found that same sense of wonder as a superuser for my company's data management
system. When I made suggestions to our UX designers about improvements on efficiencies and about how
information can be made more easily accessible to users, my suggestions were granted…like
magic. My eyes were opened to the power of programming.
I knew that I needed to learn how the magic works. I took a few fundamental coding courses online and
fell in love with it. But there was so much that I wanted to learn so I decided to leave my job and pursue
my quest to learn programming by enrolling in to Fullstack Academy of Code. The rest is history~~
Now for the fun part - here are a few fun facts about me:
I am a huge
foodie; my favorite type of food is noodle in soup and fried chicken--
wings only, please. When I travel, I believe the best way to learn about a country's culture
is by enjoying the food within. On hot summer days, I love
biking along Caesar's Bay in Brooklyn. Recently, I have a newfound love for throwing a
frisbee, scheming in the game of
Avalon, and puzzling over a good
brain teaser. Lastly, I love dogs and taking care of one has been the best life choice ever.
His name is
Leo.

Going out to eat with friends is fun, but the process of deciding on the what and the where can be painful.
521ATE is a mobile application that solves that problem by allowing users to decide on a meal within
minutes, with restaurants generated from a geographical midpoint. A fullstack application incorporating
React-Native, Koa, Socket.io, Yelp API, and Apple Maps API.
Created by the capstone team at Fullstack Academy: Samuel Kwon, Jason Ioannides, Sandy Mak, and
Sarah Zhao.

Have you ever wanted to play a game of DDR on your laptop? Now you can, with Reversal.
I created this app using the NERD stack (Node.js, Express, React, PostgresQL), which took advantage
of React's modular structure. I took advantage of the modularity of React and created redux store
on the front end to preserve constantly changing game state.
My stretch goals for this project is to build a live multiplayer game that allows users to challenge
each other with extra features such as power ups.
